Goodbye, old faithful...

After years of service, my beloved Boss GT-3 finally died. Oh, well... looks like now I HAVE to get a new toy... heh heh.

Jalan-jalan makan-makan dan makan lagi

Early last month, yours truly and the missus were treated to an extended weekend getaway to Medan & Lake Toba. Upon winning first and second place during the inter-department and inter-ministry Nasyid Festival, respectively, my group and I received free tickets, courtesy of the Prime Minister's Department. Medan was nice. A haven for fabrics fanatics. I particularly like the highlands, the horse rides and 'pemborongan' of CDs. Can't say the same about the food there... the restaurants the tour guide took us were rather disappointing. Nonetheless, it was a particularly informational tour: we were taken to the Batak village at Danau Toba and witnessed a re-enactment of a beheading ritual. Cool!

Other places of interest visited were Air Terjun Sipiso-Piso (Piso=pisau=knife). It didn't look much like a knife but I guess if you stand underneath the fall, you'll feel like a thousand stabbing knives all over. Berastagi was cool in more than one sense of the word. The coolest part was bathing in the hot spring at the foot of a live volcano! That was an experience...

Final day was spent shopping at the pasar baju and the Medan Mall. Four days, three nights, free trip, sponsored by the government... given another chance to go, I'll pass. Once is enough, me thinks.
