"Lu gerek seh...!" Part 1

Translation: "You're bitchin', dude...!"
- Singaporean rockers slang
First sight at second link
Friday afternoon, after five not-so-gruelling hours on the road (thanks to a B-grade French-speaking-Thai action movie and a really bad copy of War Of The Worlds), we were greeted with our first sight of the republic island. Immigration and customs didn't put up that much of a fuss when they saw our equipment. Upon arrival at the terminal, we were greeted by some familiar faces and some not-so-familiar ones. After exchanging greetings and about half an hour later, we checked into our hotel, Tristar Inn at Geylang Serai (red light district, seh!) and chilled out in our rooms, waiting for soundcheck after Maghrib.

My rigNightfall, we geared up for the soundcheck. We loaded up the vans and made our way to Fort Canning. The stage was big: 40'x60' and had the truss rigs and sound system of a full-blown festival-style setup. I was impressed. As for my rig, I was quite happy to be using the Trace Elliott full stack they had prepared. Everything went down without a hitch. King Shah wasn't with us during the first day since he had to attend an equally crucial business back in KL, so the soundcheck went on with Ritz and me doubling up to test King Shah's rig. So far so good, all went well. I didn't know what to expect for the following night: no one did. Let's just hope that the response is a good one so that we can have a decent show at the very least.

We went back to the hotel and as any rombongan Mak Lijah, we ate like there was no tomorrow. One after another, other bands started to arrive and as expected, we took over the restaurant at the corner of the hotel. We had to make some adjustments to the food since it didn't really fit our palate. For some reason or another, no one seems to be able to find anything other than Nasi Ayam. For me, I was just happy to shove it down.

Midnight, my roomate Badang and I hit the sack, not knowing what to expect, unable to foresee anything. We just hope that it will be a good show with a decent turnout. Sure, there will be some glitches but little do I know, those 'little' glitches... not so little as it turned out.

to be continued...
